Regina Spektor cover with Kyle - Don't Leave Me (ne me quitte pas)

My friend did a thing and let me be a part of it.
He'll say we did the cover together but really he did all the arrangements and we recorded with his equipment and instruments. I just sang mediocrely, played piano and trombone a bit and goofed around with the slide whistle and ipad haha. It was really fun.

We have both been Regina Spektor fans for a long time and when the new album came out we were both living in the same place (almost) so it just worked out.

Check out his other amazing covers and originals on his youtube channel.

Before I Etcetera

Instead of Killing Yourself
wait until
a year from now
where you say,
“Holy fuck,
I can’t believe I was going to kill myself before I etcetera’d…
before I went skinny dipping in Tennessee,
made my own IPA,
tried out for a game show,
rode a camel drunk,
skydived alone,
learned to waltz with clumsy old people,
photographed electric jellyfish,
built a sailboat from trash,
taught someone how to read,
etc. etc. etc.”
The red washing
down the bathtub
can’t change the color of the sea
at all.
- Derrick C. Brown

Back in February 2011 I made a list of ten goals I wanted to accomplish in my life:

1. Graduate University.
2. Live somewhere else for a while.
3. Travel.
4. Move out.
5. Go to a major music festival in the States.
6. See all my friends who live far away.
7. Teach.
8. Make more friends.
9. Write more music (and maybe actually share my music with people).
10. Write a book.

Since then: I graduated with two degrees, moved out and moved away, went to Sasquatch twice, saw all my friends and family a few times (though I always want to see them more), completed my pre-internship and internship, made new friends and became better friends with old friends, wrote some songs and shared a couple of them, got two tattoos, dyed my hair purple a few times, got a new car, and got a job.
and that's just the "big" stuff.
I took silly photos with my friends, jumped on a trampoline with my nephews, planted flowers and watched them grow, read great books, sang my favourite song really loudly in a car with some of my favourite people, went on a plane by myself, beat the obstacle course on Wii Fit, rode a ferris wheel, cried at a funeral, stared at the stars.

and I'm going to be 23 in 9 days and I can't wait for what's next.

the boredom and the freedom and the time spent alone

I haven't posted in a while and today I woke up feeling the pressure but I have no creative ideas so here is what I have been up to lately in case you were curious:

-having friends and family out three nights in a row on the weekend.
Stephen's band and sister came out Saturday night and we cooked supper and the girls played Scrabble while the boys played music.
We had some friends out on Canada Day for dinner and we all played some music together while enjoying the crazy-long storm.
Then on Monday both sets of parents came out for an afternoon visit and BBQ.

- On Tuesday I bought some new gardening tools and did yard work.
I am very happy that my flower garden is doing so well and even better - the peas and cucumbers I planted are growing!

-Yesterday my friend and I (this person) took a little day trip to Moose Jaw, SK to wander around aimlessly looking at shops, eat lunch at a Chinese buffet, and float around in the spa all afternoon contemplating flags before purchasing disappointing ice cream and driving home. It was a perfect mid-week vacation day.

- I found out I won a giveaway from this amazing blog and won a gift card to this cool store. So that was exciting!

My summer is slowly filling up with little things here and there - birthday parties, get-togethers with different groups of friends, etc. Nothing really big until the end of the month and then a bit in August so I am just spending my time reading (currently reading Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami), gardening, and...don't laugh...playing Sims 2. I really like it haha. I hope you are all having fantastic summers so far!
