Good Mother

Today is a super special day because it is the anniversary of the birth of the most talented, inspiring, amazing women I know. Without whom I would not be here (on earth).

Happy Birthday, Mom!

My mom is on holiday right now so I sadly won't see her today, so I made this for her.

Jann Arden is her favourite singer and this is the song that she and my brother danced to at his wedding, 5 years and 2 days ago.

My mom is an amazing person who has taught me so much and continues to inspire me every day with her hard work and caring attitude. She makes the world a better place.

Top 5 Songs About Mortality

Yesterday I received news that a family friend had passed away.
And then I took a 3-hour long bus ride by myself.
So I had plenty of time to listen to music and think about things, which are two things I really enjoy doing.
I often love music not only for the music, but for the lyrics.
Here are five songs that I think sum up my feelings about death pretty well.

5. The End - The Beatles
"And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make."

4. To Go Home - M. Ward
"God it's great to be alive, takes the skin right off my hide.
To think I'll have to give it all up some day.."

3. On The Radio - Regina Spektor
"This is how it works: you're young until you're not,
you love until you don't, you try until you can't,
you laugh until you cry, you cry until you laugh,
and everyone must breathe until their dying breath."

2. In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel
"And one day we will die and our ashes will fly from the aeroplane over the sea.
But for now we are young, let us lay in the sun
and count every beautiful thing we can see."

1. Do You Realize - The Flaming Lips
" Do you realize that you have the most beautiful face?
Do you realize we're floating in space?
Do you realize that happiness makes you cry?
Do you realize that everyone you love someday will die
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes let them know you realize that life goes fast,

it's hard to make the good things last,
you realize the sun doesn't go down.
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning 'round."

Today - Original Song

I wrote this song back in April 2010, but a friend of mine recently got some bad news, so I made this to cheer him up.
This was the first song I wrote for guitar that I actually liked. It's based on "Here Comes the Sun".
Making this also gave me a chance to use up some old footage I had on my computer.

Lyrics after the jump.

Purple Tips

I dyed the ends of my hair purple yesterday. I had some Manic Panic dye left over from the summer. (When I got home from Sasquatch I put a streak in my hair but it washed out quickly)

I don't expect this to last very long. I might re-apply it, we'll see.

The light in these photos is a bit misleading. My hair looks really blonde and really purple, but really in winter my hair turns a quite ashy blonde, and the purple looks kind of grey and blue in natural light and fluorescent light.

It's kind of a fun way to embrace the winter grey, I guess.

My fish, Sam is red with purple streaks in his tail and fins.

If I were a redhead instead of a blonde, we'd match!

Foggy February

Last week it was super foggy here for a few days. When I was driving to school on the highway I didn't have my camera with me so I snapped this pic with my phone.

I drove home through the city and took these:

This is a tall(ish) building downtown, totally immersed in the fog:

And here's a foggy song to listen to while you look.
I've been quite busy with school and work and trying to fit a social life and leisure time in, so I've been ignoring my blog but I'll try to have another post up later this week.
